Hong Kong’s air is really not good. Actually, it’s really bad.
Everyone sort of knows this:
- We talk about ‘losing’ the Harbour in the smog more and more often.
- We hear about expats leaving town...
- We hear there’s nothing we can do - it all comes from the Pearl River Delta.
But what about you? How much do you know?
What would the impact be if you:
- Play basketball in Wanchai on a smoggy day?
- Queue for a bus in Causeway Bay during rush hour?
- Live in Mong Kok or Tung Chung?
- Have a child getting asthma at the Mid-levels kindergarten?
- Drive a car (and add to the pollution)?
Is this issue just hot air, or should we really be worried?
Our community is debating this right now. Hong Kong’s air quality objectives (AQOs) — the standards used to manage our air quality, and ultimately its effect on our health — are currently under review.
